Massachusetts State Police Release – 10312013 – State Police Cruiser Struck on I-93 in Boston
Tonight at 10:03 p.m., a Trooper from the State Police South Boston Barracks was assisting a disabled vehicle on Interstate 93 Northbound, just prior to exit 15 in Boston. The disabled vehicle was in the right travel lane. A second cruiser was further behind the Trooper assisting the disabled car. This Trooper was out of his cruiser, setting up flares, to warn motorists of the disabled car and cruiser up ahead. While the Trooper was out of his cruiser, setting up flares, his cruiser was struck from behind, causing damage to both vehicles.
The vehicle that struck the cruiser, was a 2002 Subaru Forester, being operated by a 24-year-old male from Walpole. After this initial crash, a 1999 Toyota Camry being operated by a 20-year-old female from New Bedford collided with the Subaru Forester. Then, a Ford F-250 pickup truck, being operated by a 43-year-old male from South Boston, collided with the Toyota Camry.
The operator of the Toyota Camry was the only injured party. She was transported by Boston EMS to Boston Medical Center with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the State Police Troop H Headquarters. Boston EMS/Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation assisted at this scene.
No further updates are expected tonight. Please do not call the Barracks directly.
