Massachusetts State Police Release — 06262014 — Publication of Security and Traffic Information for July 3 and 4 Esplanade Events
The following documents contain important information regarding this year’s July 3 and 4 celebration on the Esplanade in Boston. Open the documents to view information about prohibited items, road closures and traffic restrictions, pedestrian access points into the Esplanade, boating restrictions and guidelines, and our Text-A-Tip line for reporting suspicious activity.
Of particular note for 2014 are the following changes from last year’s restrictions:
- Bicycles will not be allowed into secure areas (the Oval and the Lagoon/Island areas). Bicycles will be allowed throughout the rest of the venue, but must not be left unattended and may not be attached or locked to fences, poles or other structures. Those that are may be subject to removal. This regulation has been enacted for public safety and crowd management in the event that a speedy and efficient evacuation becomes necessary.
- Due to ongoing construction on the Longfellow Bridge, there will be no fireworks viewing allowed from that bridge.
- The location of the fireworks barges has been moved slightly westward, closer to the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge. This impacts the safety zone for boaters. This year, no boats will be allowed between the bridge and the barges. Boaters must be east of the safety zone and west of the Massachusetts Avenue bridge.
For more information on these and other guidelines, please view the accompanying documents.
