Lawrence Man Arrested for Heroin Possession in Lowell

Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 04072016 – Lawrence Man Arrested for Heroin Possession in Lowell

Early this morning at approximately 12:50 a.m., Trooper Scott Gallant and his Field Training Officer, Trooper Kilimonis, were traveling east on Route 110 in Lowell when they observed a black Chevy sedan with window tint that appeared to be below the legal limit of 35 percent. Trooper Gallant and Trooper Kilimonis stopped the vehicle and contacted the operator, CARLOS A. MELENDEZ, 31, of Lawrence.

Upon further investigation, MELENDEZ was found to be in possession of heroin, needles, and $15,521 in cash. MELENDEZ was placed under arrest and transported to the State Police barracks in Concord for booking. MELENDEZ was held on $100,000 bail.

MELENDEZ was charged with the following:
1. Driving with a suspended license;
2. Window tint violation;
3. Drug, Possession of Class A, subsequent offense
4. Possession of Heroin

MELENDEZ is scheduled to appear in Lowell District Court later this week.
