Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 11272016 – State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Boston

This morning, at approximately 12:40 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in South Boston responded to reports of a crash, where a vehicle went over the guardrail on Interstate 93 Northbound near exit 14 in Boston. Upon arrival, troopers discovered that a 2014 Volvo S60 had, for reasons still under investigation, left the roadway, going over the guardrail, went airborne, rolled over, then struck a 2016 Honda HRV, which was traveling inbound on Morrissey Boulevard, then came to rest on Morrissey Boulevard.

The driver of the Volvo, a 50-year-old man from Chatham was determined to be deceased at the crash scene. The driver of the Honda, a 21-year-old female and a passenger, a 24-year-old man, both from Dorchester were transported to Boston Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Identification of the deceased driver will be released later today.

Morrissey Boulevard Northbound was closed during the incident until approximately 4:57 a.m., when the scene was cleared.

The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police South Boston Barracks. Troop H Headquarters, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), Boston Police, Boston Fire and EMS, State Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) all assisted on scene.
