State Police Investigating Serious Crash in Tyngsborough

Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 08062017 – State Police Investigating Serious Crash in Tyngsborough

Tonight at about 8:05 p.m., State Police from the Andover Barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 3 southbound, just North of Exit 34 in Tyngsborough.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Stephen Thomson indicates that a man was traveling on Route 3 southbound in a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a large sign post.

The operator was flown by Med Flight medical helicopter to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston for treatment of serious injuries.  His three passengers were transported to Lowell General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

While this crash remains under investigation, operator fatigue is believed to have been factor.  No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were assisted on scene by Tyngsborough Fire and EMS, as well as troopers from the Concord Barracks, and Tyngsborough and Chelmsford Police.

The identity of the operator is being withheld pending family notification.
