Bronx Child Rape Suspect Captured in Springfield Last Week

Members of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and the New York Police Department Special Victims Unit last week located a child rape suspect from the Bronx working in a Springfield restaurant.

The suspect, MALCOLM LUGO, 20, was taken into custody at his place of employment on the afternoon of Sept. 21 and transported to the State Police-Springfield Barracks, where he was booked as a fugitive from justice.

Investigation by the Bronx division of the NYPD Special Victims Unit indicates that on or about Aug. 14, LUGO followed a 12-year-old girl as she left a neighborhood bodega and walked along the sidewalk. As the girl passed an alley, LUGO grabbed her by the neck, put her in a headlock, told her had a gun, and dragged her into the alley and raped her.

During the week of September 18, NYPD developed information that LUGO had fled to the Springfield area and contacted the MSP Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section West Team. Troopers and officers worked the case and determined that LUGO was working at Sun Kim Bop Korean Restaurant, 1244 Main St., Springfield, where he as ultimately located and arrested.

LUGO, whose last known previous address was on Monroe Avenue in the Bronx borough, has been rendited to New York to face rape charges.
