Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 10072017 – State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Auburn

This morning, at approximately 1:03 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Sturbridge responded to reports of a crash on Route 395 southbound, south of exit 6 at the 11.2 mile-marker in Auburn. Upon arrival, Trooper Jordan Steverman discovered that a 2015 Toyota Tundra, driven by Michael J. Lee, 38, of Webster, struck a 2012 Freightliner tractor-trailer, which was stationary in the breakdown lane. Mr. Lee was determined to be deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained from the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 50-year-old man from Central Islip, New York was inside the cab of the truck, but was not injured.

During the incident, the right travel lane was closed and reopened at approximately 6:40 a.m., when the scene was cleared.

The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police Sturbridge Barracks. Troop C Headquarters, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement Section (CMVES), Auburn Fire Department, Office of the State Medical Examiner, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) all assisted on scene.
