Crash in Andover Kills Sturbridge Man
Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 03122018 – State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Andover
Early this morning, at approximately 12:34 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Andover responded to reports of a crash on I-93 northbound, just north of I-495 in Andover.
Upon arrival, Trooper David Hanafin discovered that a 2008 GMC Sierra, driven by Derek Frechette, 48, of Sturbridge, was traveling northbound on I-495, when for reasons still under investigation, drove off the right side of the roadway, rolling over, coming to rest in the wooded area just off the roadway.
Mr. Frechette was extricated from the vehicle by Andover Fire Department and transported to Lawrence General Hospital where he was determined to be deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the Andover Barracks. Troop A Headquarters, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), and Andover Fire Department all assisted on scene.
