Massachusetts State Police Media Release–06212018–State Police Arrest Two Men for Illegal Possession of a Firearm
On Sunday, June 17, 2018, a motor vehicle stop led to the arrest of two men for unlawful possession of a firearm, among other charges.
Trooper Juan Sandoval of the State Police Barracks in Athol, was on patrol on Route 202 South in the town of Orange when he observed a black Nissan Altima traveling at a speed greater than the posted speed limit. Trooper Sandoval stopped the vehicle and determined the operator, DARIUS FUENTES, 26, of Amherst was unlicensed. He additionally determined that no one in the vehicle could produce a valid driver’s license.
Upon further investigation, with assistance from Troopers Patrick Donoghue and Linares Nunez, a black Colt .25 caliber Auto firearm with a round in the chamber was located in the vehicle. None of the occupants in the vehicle possessed a license to carry a firearm in Massachusetts.
FUENTES and one of the passengers, THOMAS RACINE, 19, of Gardner, were placed under arrest and transported to the Athol Barracks where they were booked on the following charges.
FUENTES was charged with the following offenses:
- Possession of a Firearm without LTC or FID;
- Possession of Ammunition without LTC or FID;
- Possession of Class D with Intent to Distribute;
- Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle; and
RACINE was charged with the following offenses:
- Unlawful possession of a Firearm;
- Possession of Ammunition without FID Card; and
- Possession to Distribute Class D
Both men were arraigned in Orange District Court on Monday.
