State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in South Boston

This morning, at approximately 7:08 a.m., Massachusetts State Troopers responded to reports of a crash on Haul Road near the intersection of the Exit 25 off ramp from Route 90 eastbound in South Boston. The crash resulted in a fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Christopher Amate indicates that a 2015 Nissan Rogue was exiting the Massachusetts Turnpike (Route 90 eastbound) onto Haul Road when, for reasons still under investigation, the operator failed to stop the vehicle at the red light and struck a tractor trailer entering the intersection of Bypass and Haul Roads. The operator of the Nissan, a 59-year-old man, was transported by Boston EMS to Tufts Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The victim was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The Haul Road exit was temporarily closed and traffic was diverted via Seaport Boulevard.

The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section. Also assisting on scene were Boston Fire and EMS and Mass DOT.
