Illegally Possessed Firearm Recovered from a Disabled Motor Vehicle in Auburn

September 10, 2018 – At approximately 4:45 p.m. on September 6, Trooper Joshua Shirtcliff recovered an illegally possessed firearm from a black GMC Sierra disabled on Route 290 in Auburn.

Trooper Shirtcliff identified the operator as MATTHEW SKIDGEL, 30,, and his front passenger as WAYNE SKIDGEL, 43, both from Caribou, Maine. The rear passenger was identified as JEFFREY THIBODEAU, 41 of Limestone, Maine.

As a result of an investigation, the operator was determined to be driving without a license. THIBODEAU had two open warrants for Forgery of a Check and Uttering False Check. Both were subsequently placed under arrest.

As a result of a search, a 9mm LUGER pistol, eight 9mm Lugar rounds of ammunition, multiple open Budweiser bottles and various empty containers of alcoholic beverages were located inside the vehicle. Wayne SKIDGEL claimed responsibility of the pistol but does not possess a license to carry a firearm.

Troopers Nicholas Nason and Brendan Donovan assisted with the stop.

All three subjects were transported to the State Police Barracks in Holden where they were booked.

MATTHEW SKIDGEL was charged with the following offenses:

Possess Open Container of Alcohol in Motor Vehicle; and

Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle.

WAYNE SKIDGEL was charged with the following offenses:

Possession of Ammunition without Fid Card;

Possession of Firearm without Fid Card;

Store Improper Firearm; and

Possession / Carrying a Firearm.

THIBODEAU was charged with the following offenses:

Warrant

Bail was set bail for MATTHEW SKIDGEL at $240, WAYNE SKIDGEL at $1040, and THIBODEAU at $340.  The three men were scheduled for arraignment the following day in Worcester District Court.
