UPDATE: The operator of the Dodge Avenger who was pronounced deceased following the crash on Route 3 in Chelmsford yesterday is identified as Noah Martin, 21, of Hudson, NH. The operator of the Nissan Altima who also was killed in the crash has been identified as Rebecca Savoie, 42, of Nashua, NH. The crash remains under investigation. See below for original release.
October 8, 2018 – An early morning crash on Route 3 in Chelmsford resulted in the deaths of two operators.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Andrew Valeri indicates that at about 1:28 a.m., the Andover State Police Barracks received numerous reports of a 2014 Nissan Altima traveling at 100+ MPH Southbound in the Northbound left lane of Route 3, coming from New Hampshire. At about 1:33 a.m. the Andover Barracks received several reports of a crash involving the Nissan on Route 3 Northbound prior to exit 32 in Chelmsford.
The Nissan Altima being operated by a 42-year-old woman from Nashua, NH, struck a 2010 Dodge Avenger being operated by a 21-year-old man from Hudson, NH. The Nissan struck the Dodge head on. The left lane and both right lanes were closed during the investigation with only the middle lane getting by. The lanes were closed for approximately 3 ½ hours.
The operator of the Nissan was determined to be deceased at the scene. The operator of the Dodge was transported to Lowell General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and Crime Scene Services Section.
State Police were assisted on scene by Chelmsford Fire and EMS, MassDOT and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
The identity of the victims are being withheld pending family notification.
