Troopers Investigating Armed Carjacking by Suspect in Webster-to-Worcester Pursuit

At zero-hundred (midnight) today, Massachusetts State Police Troop C dispatch advised patrols that Oxford Police were pursuing a Dodge pickup truck that had fled from a motor vehicle stop in Webster. The suspect vehicle, which had three occupants, one of whom, the driver, was reportedly armed, entered onto Route 395 northbound at Exit 3.

Massachusetts State Police patrols joined the pursuit in a secondary position. At approximately 12:17 a.m., an MSP Trooper successfully deployed stop sticks against the suspect vehicle, causing damage to its tires. Several minutes later the suspect vehicle went up the ramp to Route 290 eastbound going in the wrong direction and crashed on the highway.

According to preliminary investigation, the male driver of the vehicle exited the pickup and, while brandishing a handgun, forced the driver of a silver Buick Enclave from that vehicle. The suspect fled in the Enclave, which is registered out of Connecticut.
MSP Troopers located the carjacked vehicle and re-initiated the pursuit in Worcester. The suspect then re-entered Route 290, driving an eastbound direction on the westbound side of the highway.  Approximately a minute later, around 12:30 a.m., Troopers terminated the pursuit as it entered the Kelley Square area.
The two female passengers of the initial suspect vehicle remained in that vehicle after the initial crash and are being interviewed to determine whether they will face charges. The investigation into the operator’s identity and whereabouts is ongoing.
No injuries were sustained by anyone involved, according to preliminary reports.
