Tow Driver Struck in Peabody Hit and Run, Suspect Surrenders

Shortly before 9:15 pm Friday, while changing a flat tire on a disabled motor vehicle in the breakdown lane of Route 128 northbound at Route 114 in Peabody, a Gaeta’s Tow operator was stuck on the passenger side of the disabled vehicle by a passing 2016 Nissan Altima with Maine registration. The vehicle then fled the scene. 

All area State and local patrols were notified. The 21-year-old male victim was taken to Lahey Clinic by Atlantic Ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. The victim’s name is not being released. 

At approximately 10:40 pm Friday the owner/operator of the vehicle that fled turned himself in to the State Police-Danvers Barracks.  The operator was interviewed and the vehicle was photographed by Crime Scene Services.  

The operator will be summonsed to court for Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash, Marked lanes violations and possibly other charges upon completion of the ongoing investigation.

MSP does not release the names of summonsed defendants until they appear in court.
