Preliminary investigation by Trooper Daniel Bryden indicates that a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee was being operated by an as yet unidentified woman. The vehicle was driving eastbound when, for reasons unknown, it left the roadway at the 6 mile marker, travelled into the wood line, and struck a tree.

The Swansea Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene. The victim of the crash succumbed to her injuries and was determined to be deceased at the scene.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Swansea Fire and Police Departments, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Highway Division, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner also assisted at the scene.

The left and middle travel lanes of Route 195 eastbound were closed for a period of time to accommodate the initial emergency response and crash investigation.
