State Police CARS Instrumental in Holyoke Manslaughter Guilty Plea

Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 12112014 – State Police CARS Instrumental in Holyoke Manslaughter Guilty Plea

On September 15, 2013, Trooper David Sanford of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) assisted Holyoke Police in the investigation of a fatal crash that claimed the lives of two Holyoke residents, Brian Callahan and Moira Murphy.  As a result of the investigation, charges were brought against 21-year-old JONATHAN LOPEZ of Springfield, including two counts of Motor Vehicle Homicide.  Due to the competence of the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office and the integrity of the investigation conducted by the Holyoke Police Department and Trooper Sanford, the evidence withstood intense pre-trial motions.

The case concluded today in Hamden County Superior Court when LOPEZ entered a guilty plea to, among other charges, two counts of Manslaughter.  He was sentenced to eight to ten years at MCI Cedar Junction.  He will serve four years of probation following his prison term.
