State Police Investigate Crash on Route 2 Eastbound on Arlington, Belmont Line

Massachusetts State Police Media Release — 01232015 — State Police Investigate Crash on Route 2 Eastbound on Arlington, Belmont Line

 

Today at 6:54 p.m. troopers assigned to the State Police barracks in Brighton responded a report of a crash on Route 2 Eastbound at exit 59 on the Arlington/Belmont line.  Members of the Arlington Police Department, Belmont Police Department and Emergency Medical Services also responded to the crash.

Preliminary investigation suggests that a 2015 Ford Fiesta operated by a 77-year-old male from Cambridge was traveling east on route 2 and left the roadway in the area of exit 59, which the Pleasant Street overpass in Belmont near the Arlington line.  The vehicle traveled up an embankment, crashed through a guardrail, becoming airborne and eventually landing on to Pleasant Street where it collided with a 1995 Honda Civic operated by a 20-year-old female from Winchester.

All travel lanes of Route 2 eastbound where closed as the crash scene was investigated.  Travel on Route 2 eastbound was negatively affected for approximately 1 hour.  Members of the Mass Department of Transportation respond to the scene to assist with traffic control.

The operator of the Ford Fiesta sustained serious but what appear to be non life-threating injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mass General Hospital.

The operator of the Honda Civic suffered what appear to be minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Winchester Hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by Trooper James Ackerley of the Brighton barracks.

The operator of the Ford Fiesta has been identified as George U Bell, 77, of Cambridge.
The operator of the Honda Civic has been identified as Sydney R. Moran, 20, of Lexington.
