The victim struck in the O’Neill Tunnel this morning, a 29-year-old Mattapan woman, is in critical condition at Tufts Medical Center (not MGH as previously reported).
The investigation indicates that the victim was picked up at the departures level of Terminal C at Logan Airport by an Uber driver, a 27-year-old woman operating a 2012 Mazda Cx9 sport utility vehicle. The driver made an agreement to drive her fare to her residence in Boston for an agreed upon price. The vehicle left the airport via the Sumner Tunnel, then entered Route 93 southbound via the Haymarket on-ramp. While driving on Route 93 southbound inside the tunnel, just prior to Exit 23, the victim exited the moving vehicle from the rear passenger side door. The victim was then struck by a 2015 Jeep Cherokee being operated by a 31-year-old Charlestown man.
Troopers have interviewed the drivers of the Mazda and the Jeep, and have processed and documented the Jeep. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County. No further information is being released at this time.
