Crash in Springfield Leaves Canton Woman Dead

Last evening, at approximately 7:14 p.m., troopers from the State Police – Springfield Barracks responded to reports of a rollover crash on I-291 Eastbound at Exit 3 in Springfield.

Upon arrival, troopers located a 2012 Ford Escape that for reasons still under investigation, had left the travel lane, off the right side of the highway, rolled over and ejected the driver. The driver was identified as Laura J. Ryan, 37, of Canton.

Ms. Ryan was transported by ambulance to Bay State Medical in Springfield were she was determined to be deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

During the crash investigation and follow-up reconstruction, the right travel lane, as well as the Exit 3 off-ramp was closed. All lanes were opened at approximately 10:00 p.m.

The remaining facts and circumstances remain under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police – Springfield Barracks. Troop B Headquarters, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), Springfield Fire Department, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MA DOT) all assisted on scene.
