Troopers Arrest Man with Firearm, Narcotics

At approximately 7:20 p.m. yesterday Trooper Nicholas Donnini, assigned to the Troop H Community Action Team, was patrolling Route 93 in Braintree. As he was traveling southbound he observed a blue Dodge Charger pass his fully-marked cruiser at a high rate of speed in the left travel lane. Trooper Donnini increased speed to catch up to the Charger and clocked it at over 90 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. He then activated his emergency lights and stopped the vehicle prior to Exit 5.

After the vehicle came to a stop Trooper Donnini approached it and identified the operator as KALEEL SPEED, 22, of Taunton. The Trooper informed SPEED he stopped him for speeding and, while speaking to him, observed an open bottle of Patron tequila. After additional questioning and subsequent investigation on scene Trooper Donnini removed SPEED and conducted a search of the vehicle. He quickly located a loaded Taurus .45 caliber pistol with a defaced serial number, rendering it unable to be checked against a stolen firearm registry. SPEED does not possess a license to carry firearms.

Upon the vehicle being towed from the scene SPEED was transported to State Police-South Boston for booking. Troopers also located a small amount of a substance suspected to be Ecstasy on his person. A bail commissioner was contacted and set bail at $25,000. He was scheduled for arraignment at Quincy District Court on the following charges:

  1. Illegal Possession of a Firearm;
  2. Possession of Ammunition without FID Card;
  3. Possession of a Firearm with Defaced Serial Number;
  4. Possession of a Class B Substance;
  5. Open Container of Alcohol in Vehicle; and
  6. Speeding.
