STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL CRASH IN ASHFIELD

At 5:35 PM Saturday, Sept. 10, Massachusetts State Police responded to a multiple-vehicle crash on Plainfield Road in Ashfield that resulted in a fatality.  

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2011 Toyota Rav4 was traveling on Pleasant Street. At the same time, a 2010 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling on Plainfield Road.  

Preliminary investigation indicates that the Toyota failed to stop for the stop sign at the end of Pleasant Street and crossed into the oncoming side of the Plainfield Road, where it struck the Chevy head on. 

The operator of the Toyota, a 53-year-old woman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was determined to be deceased at the scene.  

The driver of the Chevy, a 22-year-old man from East Longmeadow, suffered minor injuries.  

The crash resulted in the roadway being closed at the crash site for four hours.  

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the State Police-Shelburne Falls Barracks, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Franklin County Detective Unit.
