TROOPERS ARREST REPEAT OFFENDER FOR FOURTH OFFENSE ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION

At approximately 2 a.m. Thursday, Trooper Timothy Alben, assigned to State Police-Northampton, was on patrol with Trooper Corey Boileau, a recent graduate of the 87th Recruit Training Troop, traveling on Northampton Street in Holyoke. At that time they observed a gray Cadillac with defective license plates lights. Trooper Alben activated the cruiser’s emergency lights and initiated a motor vehicle stop on the Cadillac. 

Upon stopping the Cadillac, Trooper Alben approached the vehicle and greeted the operator, eventually identified as GRABIEL COLON, 46, of Holyoke. Trooper Alben continued to speak with COLON, asking several questions then recalled a prior traffic stop in May of 2022 when he placed COLON under arrest for possession of narcotics. Trooper Alben then observed items inside of the vehicle consistent with the illegal distribution of narcotics, at which point he requested the assistance of a State Police K-9. Trooper Gregory Valentine and his K-9 partner, Kyber, responded to the scene.

During a K-9 sweep of the vehicle, Kyber indicated on a black bag. Troopers searched this bag and located a large capacity magazine loaded with live ammunition. COLON is not licensed to possess firearms or ammunition. After a full search of the vehicle Troopers located a Polymer 80 9mm pistol, loaded with a high capacity magazine. They also located several pills identified as controlled substances. COLON was placed under arrest and transported to the Northampton Barracks for booking. A bail commissioner was contacted and set bail at $50,000. COLON was eventually transported to the Hampshire County House of Correction and was scheduled for arraignment at Holyoke District Court for the following charges:

1.            Illegal Possession of a Firearm, 4th Offense;

2.            Firearm Violation with 3 Prior Violent/Drug Crimes;

3.            Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, two counts;

4.            Possession of a Class C Substance;

5.            Possession of a Class E Substance;

6.            Possession of Firearm/Ammunition without FID Card, Subsequent Offense;

7.            Possession of an Undetectable/Covert Firearm;

8.            License Plate Violation;

9.            Motor Vehicle Lighting Violation; and

10.          Illegal Window Tint.
