Search teams early this afternoon recovered the body of an adult male from the Charles River. Divers made the recovery at approximately 1:50 PM.
The search for the victim began at approximately 11:30 AM, when witnesses reported seeing a man struggling in the water in the area of the Longfellow Bridge. The search for and eventual recovery of the victim was a joint operation by Massachusetts State Police patrols and the MSP Dive Team and Marine Unit, Massachusetts Environmental Police, Boston Fire and Police Departments, Cambridge Fire Department, the Coast Guard, and Massport Fire Department.
Troopers from the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County are conducting the death investigation and working to confirm the victim’s identity. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform a post-mortem examination to help determine cause and manner of death.
