Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in New Bedford Under Investigation


At approximately 4:15 AM today Troopers from the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks responded to Route 140 north at Braley Road in New Bedford for a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality. 


Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 Ford F150 pickup was traveling north approaching Exit 7. Just past the off-ramp for the exit, the pickup struck the guardrail a high rate of speed and went airborne.


The driver, who is believed to have been unbelted, was ejected in the crash and determined to be deceased on scene. The victim’s identity is not being released at this time. 


The crash remains under investigation by the State Police-Dartmouth Barracks, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. 


The ramp was closed until approximately 7 AM to accommodate the rescue response and investigation.
