Today, the Massachusetts State Police, in partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service, New York Police Department and Lynn Police Department, apprehended two men wanted in connection with the attempted murder of an off-duty New York Police Department detective in the Bronx.

The suspects – D’Angelo Caraballo, 25, and Sneider Bautista, 24 – were taken into custody overnight following a multi-day search across New York and Massachusetts by a Regional Fugitive Task Force. The suspects ultimately were found hiding in the basement of a residence in Lynn and arrested without incident at approximately 12:20 a.m.

Members of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS), as part of a Regional Fugitive Task Force, drove an extensive statewide investigation, involving multiple addresses and associates, after receiving information that the suspects may have fled to Massachusetts.

Caraballo and Bautista were booked by the Lynn Police Department in advance of their arraignment in Lynn District Court. They are expected to be returned to New York to face charges including attempted murder.

VFAS Troopers work closely with local, state and federal law enforcement partners to locate and apprehend individuals wanted for serious violent offenses.

According to the NYPD, the two suspects stabbed the off-duty detective seven times during an attempted robbery on Oct. 2 in the Bronx. The suspects fled on an e-bike. The detective was treated in a local hospital and released on Oct. 6.

The apprehension was the result of exhaustive investigative work by VFAS West, Central, Metro and North teams; the U.S. Marshal Service’s New York-New Jersey, Boston and Springfield regional fugitive task forces; and the Springfield, Chicopee and Lynn Police Departments.
