MSP Divers Search Charles River After Recent Ordnance Discoveries, No Additional Projectiles Found

The Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Team and Bomb Squad, along with Massachusetts Environmental Police and the Needham Fire and Police Departments, today conducted a search of the Charles River in Needham after two deteriorated pieces of unexploded ordnance were fished out of the river in recent days. Units searched the river with divers and a remotely operated vehicle. No additional pieces of ordnance were located. Divers recovered a large elongated tank containing an unknown substance (seen being held by Trooper in inflatable boat). MSP Bomb Squad personnel and state hazardous materials specialists determined the tank contained no hazardous materials and it was disposed by the Needham Department of Public Works.
