MSP Investigating Serious Crash Between Car, Plow on Route 2 in Westminster

At 9:04 AM today Massachusetts State Troopers responded to a serious crash involving a sedan and a snow plow on Route 2 east at the 90 mile marker in Westminster. The operator of the car suffered serious injuries.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2004 Toyota Camry operated by a 20-year-old Gardner man struck the rear of a Peterbilt dump truck with an attached plow. The Camry operator was transported by ambulance to Heywood Hospital in Gardner with serious injuries; he was subsequently transported by Lifeflight helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

The driver of the plow, a 30-year-old Leominster man, was not injured. The plow was privately-owned.

Preliminary indications are that speed of the Camry and road and weather conditions were contributing factors, but the investigation is ongoing. That investigation is being conducted by the State Police-Athol Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Troop C Community Action Team.

The right lane and the ramp from Rt 140 to 2 east was closed to facilitate the rescue response and investigation. All lanes were reopened at 11:42 AM.
