Trooper Locates, Apprehends Suspect in Gardner Planet Fitness Stabbing

A Massachusetts State Trooper assigned to the State Police-Leominster Barracks this morning located, stopped, and arrested the suspect in today’s stabbing at the Planet Fitness in Gardner.

At approximately 10:36 AM MSP Troop C issued a BOLO directing personnel to be on the lookout for a silver Honda Civic with Massachusetts registration 4AKY34, the vehicle in which the stabbing suspect had fled with an unknown direction of travel. Trooper Jason Fitzgerald took up a stationary position on Route 2 eastbound in Fitchburg to watch for the suspect vehicle. At approximately 10:40 AM Trooper Fitzgerald observed the suspect vehicle pass him at the 100 mile marker. He pulled behind the Civic, activated his cruiser’s emergency equipment, and effected a motor vehicle stop approximately 1.4 miles down the highway.

Trooper Fitzgerald approached the vehicle, confirmed that the vehicle and the suspect matched the descriptions in the BOLO, and placed the suspect under arrest. Three other Troopers also responded as backup. Troopers located an edged weapon in the vehicle. Gardner Police were notified and responded to the scene of the stop. Custody of the prisoner and the vehicle was transferred to Gardner Police, who have jurisdiction over the stabbing investigation. The suspect is identified as LENNOX NUNEZ, 28, with a possible address of Revere.
