Troopers Capture Carjack Suspect After Pursuit into Kingston

At 8:23 AM today (Saturday, Sept.

23, 2023) Massachusetts State Police received a Be On the LookOut alert from Boston Police reporting that a black BMW X5 SUV was wanted in connection with an armed carjacking. The vehicle’s last known location was Route 93 at Route 3.

The BOLO was broadcast to State Police patrols. Around the same time a motorist called the State Police-Norwell Barracks to report vehicle being operated erratically on Rt. 3 southbound; that vehicle matched the description of the SUV involved in the carjacking.

State Police Troop D patrols and K9 Unit cruisers converged

toward the area. At approximately 8:28 AM an MSP patrol observed

the suspect on Rt. 3 south in

Duxbury near the North Street Overpass. Troopers tried to stop the BMW but the suspect refused to stop and fled at a very high rate of speed. The Troopers (a Field Training Officer and a new Trooper from the recently graduated Recruit Training Troop) pursued the suspect and Troop D Headquarters assumed command and control.

The suspect took Exit 18 onto Main Street (Rt 3A) in Kingston and then crashed into a stone wall near the intersection of Main Street and Landing Road. Troopers took the suspect, identified as TREVOR BAYLEF, 34, of Scituate, into custody. EMS responded to the scene and transported BAYLEF to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth for evaluation of potential injuries suffered in the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Troopers located a knife in plain sight inside the crashed BMW.

Boston Police were advised that the suspect was in custody. BPD investigators responded to Kingston to document the suspect vehicle and take possession of evidence recovered.
