Troopers ID Man Recovered from Charles River as Newton Resident

Massachusetts State Police Detectives have identified the deceased male recovered from the Charles River Tuesday as an 80-year-old Newton resident.

Preliminary investigative findings of the State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County do not indicate foul play or nefarious circumstances in the man’s death.

MSP patrols responded to the Boston side of the Charles River, a short distance east of the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge, after a dog walker observed the body close to the river bank at approximately 8:30 AM Tuesday.

The State Police Marine Unit subsequently moved the victim’s body onto the shoreline from the water. Boston EMS personnel determined he was deceased. Detectives subsequently visited the man’s apartment in Newton and spoke to persons who knew him.

At this time there is no evidence that the man’s death was the result of a criminal act. The death investigation will remain open pending a cause and manner determination by the medical examiner.
