Vehicle Stopped for Speeding Leads to OUI Arrest

On 08/16/2026, a Trooper from the Leominster Barracks was conducting stationary speed enforcement using LIDAR on Route 495 southbound in Bolton when a vehicle approached at a high rate of speed. While catching up with the vehicle, the Trooper observed the vehicle traveling back and forth across lanes at speeds of 100 to 115 mph. When the operator noticed the cruiser behind him, the vehicle slowed and moved to the right lane. The Trooper conducted a motor vehicle stop. The Trooper approached the vehicle to speak with the operator who advised he was on his way home from Peabody. The Trooper could smell a strong odor of an alcohol coming from the vehicle. The operator denied consuming alcohol. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and the operator failed. He was taken into custody and charged with Operating Under the Influence of alcohol (2nd Offense) as well as speeding and other motor vehicle violations.

Individual Charged with Disorderly Conduct after Concert

On 08/18/2026, as a Tanglewood concert ended, Berkshire Sheriff's deputies working traffic detail posts encountered a vehicle operator who was failing to follow their driving instructions and causing an unsafe scene in the roadway. The operator, who was not connected to the concert, exited his vehicle at times and acted angrily toward law enforcement. Several State Police Troopers assigned to Tanglewood detail posts in Stockbridge responded to assist. Throughout the investigation, the party involved continued to act unruly, yelling and causing disturbance. Troopers arrested a male for disorderly conduct and several motor vehicle violations.

Van on Fire, Failure to Stop Leads to Arrest

On 08/14/2026, a Trooper from the Yarmouth Barracks was monitoring traffic from the infield of Exit 75 on Route 6 eastbound in Yarmouth when a 911 call reported an erratic van approaching his location. The Trooper then observed a white van with sparks coming from beneath the vehicle. The front left undercarriage was dragging, and it appeared to be missing the front left wheel. The Trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, but the van failed to stop. The vehicle took Exit 78A to Route 134 South in Dennis. The vehicle then stopped at a red light on Route 134 South and Market Place in Dennis. The undercarriage was on fire. A felony stop was conducted. The operator refused to exit the vehicle. The vehicle continued down Route 134 into a parking lot where the male operator was taken into custody with the assistance of the Dennis Police Department. The Dennis Fire Department extinguished the fire. The operator appeared to be disoriented and under the influence of drugs or alcohol. After performing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, the operator was placed under arrest for Operating Under the Influence (OUI) and motor vehicle offenses.

Male Arrested for Firearm, Drug Charges after Speeding

On 08/18/2026, a Sergeant, while assigned a speed and aggressive driving patrol out of the Athol Barracks, stopped a motor vehicle for traveling 82 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. The Sergeant immediately faced officer safety concerns due to the operator reaching under the driver’s seat. The Sergeant gave an exit order and conducted a pat frisk for weapons. After developing probable cause with a field interview, the Sergeant searched the vehicle and located a loaded handgun as well as suspected fentanyl in the vehicle. The operator was subsequently arrested and charged with firearm and drug offenses as well as motor vehicle violations.

MSP Detectives Recover Stolen Vehicle

On 08/19/2026, a car rental company employee telephoned Troop F Detectives to request assistance in retrieving a stolen vehicle. They reported the vehicle was being tracked on Route 24 southbound in Brockton. Troopers contacted D Troop Headquarters dispatch, and a be on the lookout (BOLO) was issued to patrols. Troopers assisted by the Plymouth State Police Detective Unit successfully located the stolen vehicle. The operator was taken into custody without incident, and the car rental company was notified of the recovery.

Hit & Run Crash Leads to Arrest for 3rd OUI Offense

On 08/13/2026, a Trooper from the Revere Barracks was dispatched to a crash on Route 16 westbound at Route 145, where it was reported that one of the vehicle operators had fled the scene. The Trooper spoke with the victim, whose car was rear-ended by another vehicle while stopped at a red light. When the operator exited his car to exchange information, the other operator drove away. The victim was able to film the vehicle and driver and provided the information to the Trooper. After clearing the scene, the Trooper proceeded to the registered address of the suspect vehicle. He found the vehicle parked there and observed front-end damage. The Trooper spoke to a male party outside the residence matching the photo of the operator. Further investigation revealed he was the operator of the vehicle, and he had consumed multiple alcoholic beverages earlier. The male party was taken into custody and charged with Operating Under the Influence (3rd Offense), Leaving the Scene of Property Damage and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
