Troopers Investigating Fatal Crash on Route 95 in North Attleborough

At approximately 4:15 p.m. today, Troopers assigned to the Foxboro Barracks responded to reports of a serious, multi-vehicle crash on Route 95 northbound in the area of Exit 7 in North Attleborough. Upon the arrival of Troopers, they discovered two vehicles with serious damage. Witnesses stated a third vehicle involved in the crash initially stopped, then fled the scene.

Preliminary investigation reveals a 2006 Buick LaCrosse, operated by a 50-year-old man from Cranston, R.I., traveling on Route 95 southbound near Exit 7, was involved in a collision with a late-model Cadillac Escalade, operated by a 61-year-old man from Providence, R.I. The operator of the Cadillac subsequently lost control of his vehicle, entered the median of Route 95, then struck a 2015 Jaguar XJ, operated by a 58-year-old man from Foxboro, traveling in the northbound lanes. The collision between the Cadillac and the Jaguar caused serious injuries to the operators of both vehicles. The operator of the Jaguar was pronounced deceased on scene, while the operator of the Cadillac was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries. The operator of the Buick fled the scene in that vehicle.

Troopers took all available information on the fleeing vehicle from witnesses, then broadcast it to local police departments in the area. At approximately 5 p.m., members of the Attleboro Police Department advised that they located a Buick in their town, with front-end damage and a flat tire, that matched the description of the fleeing vehicle. Troopers responded to Attleboro and made contact with a male associated with that vehicle. The investigation into whether that person was the motorist who was involved in the crash and fled the scene is ongoing at this hour.

The exact cause and circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, along with Troopers assigned to Troop H Detective Unit, Bristol County State Police Detective Unit, Crime Scene Services, and Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section. Troopers were assisted on scene by North Attleborough Fire, Attleboro Fire, and MassDOT. All northbound lanes of Route 95 were closed while emergency personnel assisted the victims and secured the scene. All lanes reopened shortly after 8 p.m.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notifications to next of kin. No additional information is being released at this time.
