Motor Vehicle Stop Leads to Narcotics Arrest; Stabbing Investigation Ongoing

On July 28, 2026, a trooper from the Andover Barracks conducted a motor vehicle stop for a defective headlight on Route 28 in Lawrence. The vehicle had three occupants. As the trooper approached the driver’s side window, he observed that the rear-seat passenger was bleeding. The operator stated that the passenger had been stabbed during an altercation earlier that evening. EMS responded to the scene, and the injured passenger was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Further investigation revealed that the operator’s license was suspended and that the front-seat passenger had four active warrants. During a search of the front-seat passenger, troopers located multiple hypodermic needles and a small bag containing suspected heroin.

The operator was charged with operating with a suspended license and a defective headlight. The front-seat passenger was arrested on the outstanding warrants and additionally charged with possession of a Class A narcotic. The investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing.


Domestic Violence Incident and Firearm Recovery

On July 26, 2026, Station B dispatch notified patrols of a reported domestic violence incident that occurred on Interstate 91 and provided the vehicle’s registration information. Dispatch advised that a female victim had reportedly been struck multiple times by the operator and choked.

A trooper subsequently observed the vehicle on Interstate 90 as it approached Palmer. Troopers from the Westfield and Springfield Barracks, along with officers from the Palmer Police Department, conducted a felony motor vehicle stop. The operator was taken into custody and charged with domestic-violence-related offenses. Troopers additionally recovered a firearm from the trunk of the vehicle.


Erratic Operator Charged with Fifth OUI Offense

On July 25, 2026, a trooper from the Athol Barracks was driving home after completing his shift when he observed a vehicle enter Route 140 in an erratic manner. The trooper continued to observe the vehicle commit marked-lanes violations and saw that it did not have license plates attached.

The trooper conducted a motor vehicle stop and, during the roadside investigation, observed signs that the operator may have been impaired by alcohol. The trooper administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and subsequently arrested the operator.

The operator was charged with fifth-offense Operating Under the Influence and operating after suspension for OUI.


Stolen Firearm Recovered After Passenger Flees Traffic Stop

On July 28, 2026, troopers from the Middleborough Barracks attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Route 27 in Brockton. The vehicle attempted to evade troopers before slowing as it entered a driveway. Before the vehicle came to a stop, the passenger exited and fled on foot.

Troopers pursued the passenger, and a physical struggle ensued. During the struggle, the passenger assaulted a trooper with a cigarette. Troopers brought the passenger to the ground and placed him in handcuffs following the brief struggle.

The passenger was wearing a fanny pack over his shoulder. During the struggle, a trooper felt what he believed to be a firearm inside the pack. Troopers subsequently located a black .40-caliber Beretta PX4 Storm inside. A check of the firearm’s serial number revealed that it had been reported stolen out of state.

The passenger was arrested and charged with firearms offenses, receiving stolen property, and assault and battery on a police officer.


Operator Involved in Hit-and-Run Charged with OUI

On July 26, 2026, the Foxborough Barracks issued a be-on-the-lookout alert for a vehicle reportedly involved in a hit-and-run on Route 95 in Attleboro.

A trooper subsequently located the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 95 in Mansfield. While speaking with the operator, the trooper observed multiple signs of alcohol impairment.

The operator was subsequently arrested and charged with second-offense Operating Under the Influence.
