In the 351 cities and towns, Massachusetts State Troopers use their training and skill to navigate a variety of circumstances that often present significant danger to themselves and others. In an effort to raise greater awareness of their work, the Department periodically shares incident summaries.
Each summary represents a small portion of the Department’s work to enhance public safety, collaborate with our partners, and foster positive relationships within the communities we serve.
For the integrity of ongoing criminal cases and in the interest of each subject’s privacy, we have removed personally identifying information from the narratives as well as information not subject to public disclosure. All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Mental Health Crisis Aboard a Boston-Bound Flight
Airport Officials requested Troopers respond to an unruly and aggressive male passenger aboard an inbound flight.
Troopers conducted a preliminary investigation which revealed that shortly after takeoff, the man suffered a mental health crisis. He began yelling in Arabic, became extremely agitated, and punched the TV screen on the seatback in front of him. During the flight, another Arabic-speaking passenger agreed to sit next to the man and attempt to comfort him.
Troopers used their training and skill to facilitate the man’s medical transport to a Boston Hospital for further evaluation.
Boston Stabbing
Troopers responded to an altercation and stabbing in Preble Circle in South Boston. Troopers and Boston Police Officers rendered aid to a man who suffered multiple stab wounds to his torso. Before his transport to a Boston hospital, the victim shared a description of the attacker and their direction of travel.
Using their training and skill, Troopers and Officers apprehended the suspect who was in possession of prescription medication and a knife that Police believe was still bloody from the earlier attack.
Troopers Pursue Combative Woman on the Beach
Troopers assigned to the Revere Barracks and Troop A Community Action Team responded to a report of a fight on Revere Beach Blvd across from a local bar. Troopers found a man with a bruised upper lip and a group of witnesses who had a video of an assault.
The footage showed a female assailant strike the victim in the face with a chair. The witness identified the woman as she was attempting to flee the scene.
Troopers pursued the woman who ran away on Ocean Avenue. They placed her in custody and transported her to the Revere Barracks for booking.
Troopers also rendered aid to the victim until EMS arrived.
Traffic Stop Reveals Firearm and Drugs
Troopers assigned to the Springfield Barracks stopped a vehicle with an expired inspection sticker. During the stop, the operator suddenly opened the vehicle’s door as if he was about to flee. In plain view, Troopers observed illegal drugs and detained the operator. During a search of the vehicle, Troopers located a firearm, as well as large capacity magazines and ammunition. The operator was placed under arrest without incident.
Troopers Give Chase and Use Restraint to Apprehend Drug Trafficker
Troopers followed a vehicle that evaded Springfield Police until it eventually stopped in a parking lot.
When Troopers approached the operator, he provided a false name and fled the scene on foot. A brief pursuit ensued before the subject turned and positioned himself to fight Troopers. When their attempts to de-escalate proved unsuccessful, a Trooper deployed their taser and ordered the subject to stop. The subject complied allowing Troopers to take him into custody. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed trafficking quantities of illegal drugs.
Property Check Yields Felony Arrest
While performing a property check at a DCR Property in Worcester, Troopers observed an illegally parked vehicle. Troopers spoke with the operator and arrested the operator on a Felony Warrant for Strangulation and A&B on a family/household member. The suspect was also found in possession of illegal drugs and was charged for that additional offense.
Man Walking Along Highway Wrestles Troopers
Troopers observed a pedestrian in the tree line on Interstate 90 near the Interstate 290 interchange. The individual subsequently crossed into the breakdown lane causing traffic to stop.
Troopers approached the individual and told him that walking on Interstate 90 is prohibited by law. The individual said he was looking for his cell phone, refused to produce identification, and walked away from Troopers toward a motorcycle.
Troopers approached the man again and observed an ankle monitor. Recognizing the danger to the man himself and motorists, Troopers attempted to take him into custody. When the man began wrestling with Troopers, two civilian motorists stopped to assist. Troopers used their training and skill to ultimately gain control and place the subject in custody.
Traffic Stop Yields Large Seizure [TM1]
Troopers conducted a motor vehicle stop on Route 123 in Brockton when they seized a large amount of US Currency, packages containing products labeled "THC Product" of various doses, multiple packages of marijuana, and marijuana/THC product. The operator was placed in custody and charged with possessing marijuana and THC product with the intent to distribute class D and class C.
Trooper Stops Jet Ski Thieves During His Commute Home
Town of Kingston's Police Department initiated a pursuit involving a pickup truck occupied by three male suspects. The individuals are believed to be part of a jet ski theft ring operating across at least three states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
When the pursuit reached New Bedford, a Trooper commuting home deployed a tire deflation device (commonly called, “stop sticks”).
The truck came to a stop allowing Police to take one suspect into custody.
