In the 351 cities and towns, Massachusetts State Troopers use their training and skill to navigate a variety of circumstances that often present significant danger to themselves and others. In an effort to raise greater awareness of their work, the Department periodically shares incident summaries.

Each summary represents a small portion of the Department’s work to enhance public safety, collaborate with our partners, and foster positive relationships within the communities we serve.

For the integrity of ongoing criminal cases and in the interest of each subject’s privacy, we have removed personally identifying information from the narratives as well as information not subject to public disclosure. All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Throwing Knives Found in Car After Operator Arrested for OUI

A Trooper patrolling Interstate 93 in Wakefield saw a grey Nissan Altima make multiple marked lane violations and initiated a traffic stop.

During the interaction with the operator, the Trooper determined she was impaired and placed her under arrest.

Prior to towing, the Trooper conducted an inventory and discovered a small plastic bag with a brown rock-like substance, a scale, cut straws with powder residue, and three double- edged throwing knives. The operator was charged with OUI Drugs, Possession of Class B, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, and Marked Lanes.

Man Arrested Twice in Two Weeks for Narcotics

A Trooper on patrol in Springfield noticed a vehicle with a failed inspection sticker from last year. The Trooper also noticed two men in the car and not the female registered owner.

With backup on scene, Troopers identified the operator as a man previously arrested for possession of narcotics and stolen property.

Troopers saw a loose pill in the center console which the operator said was medication. They also saw a very small elastic band on one of the passengers' fingers – these bands are known to be used to secure heroin "bundles”

Troopers searched the vehicle and located several zip lock bags containing pills along with three containers of GAIN laundry detergent with security tags still attached.

State Police charged the driver with possession of narcotics and receiving stolen property.

Narcotics Found on Lap of Woman Passed Out in Car

While on patrol during a midnight shift in Worcester, a Trooper noticed a sedan parked in a closed strip mall with no other cars in the lot. As he approached the vehicle, he noticed two people passed out with what appeared to be a baggie of crushed white pills in plain view on one of the individual’s lap.

When the Trooper knocked on the window and announced his presence, the individual dumped the baggie of crushed pills on the vehicle’s floor.

Troopers secured the two individuals and conducted a vehicle search and discovered a large bag of white pills, a bottle containing unknown yellow pills, digital scale, several needles, and other various drug paraphernalia.

One of the occupants claimed ownership of the narcotics and was subsequently arrested.

Road Rage Incident Results in Arrest

Troopers from the South Boston Barracks responded to a road rage incident where a driver brandished a firearm at another motorist on Interstate 93.

Troopers stopped the suspect’s vehicle and saw a firearm in plain view.  Troopers removed the operator from the vehicle, placed them in handcuffs, secured the firearm and an additional fully loaded magazine.

In speaking with the Troopers, the suspect claimed the road rage started with the other party who left their vehicle to approaching and engage in a verbal altercation. The suspect alleged that he retrieved their firearm when the other person spat in their face.

The Troopers arrested the suspect for the firearm violation and issued a summons to the other operator for the assault and battery.

Wrong Way Operator Stopped on Tobin Bridge

The Tunnels Barracks received multiple reports of a wrong way operator driving on the Tobin Bridge. Troopers responded to the area and located the white Toyota Corolla traveling north in the southbound lane

After stopping the vehicle and speaking with the operator, Troopers noticed signs of impairment and charged him with OUI and several other violations.

Realistic BB Gun and Narcotics Found in Car

A Boston driver reported seeing an operator passed out behind the wheel to a Trooper a short distance away.

The Trooper found the unconscious drive, approached their vehicle, and knocked on the window to wake up the operator.

After observing several plastic baggies containing what appeared to be crack cocaine, the Trooper removed the operator and searched the vehicle. The search yielded several “dime bags” containing a white crystal rock substance, a digital scale with tan powder residue, a large amount of US currency, a ledger style notebook, and a BB gun that resembled a Glock pistol.

After identifying the operator, Troopers discovered their license was suspended, and they had three active felony warrants. Troopers placed the operators into custody and charged them accordingly.
