In the 351 cities and towns, Massachusetts State Troopers use their training and skill to navigate a variety of circumstances that often present significant danger to themselves and others. In an effort to raise greater awareness of their work, the Department periodically shares incident summaries.

Each summary reflects a small portion of the Department’s work to strengthen public safety, collaborate with our partners, and build positive relationships in the communities we serve.

For the integrity of ongoing criminal cases and in the interest of each subject’s privacy, we have removed personally identifying information from the narratives as well as information not subject to public disclosure. All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

State Police Arrest Four Juveniles and Recover Four Firearms and Two Stolen Cars

The Troop H Community Action Team (CAT Team) received reports of several motor vehicle thefts, including a white Volkswagen Jetta stolen out of Boston, a Jeep Grand Cherokee stolen out of Milton, and a white Honda CR-V stolen out of Braintree.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday night, CAT Team Troopers located the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Honda CR-V in an empty parking lot at the end of a dead-end, residential street in Dedham. After receiving confirmation that the vehicles were stolen, Troopers secured the scene for processing.

A short time later, a Silver Honda Pilot drove down the dead-end street. As it approached within eyesight of the tow truck and fully marked State Police cruiser, it reversed direction and returned to the main road. CAT Team Troopers believed this vehicle was returning to the parking lot to pick up the stolen vehicles and initiated a motor vehicle stop.

Before Troopers approached the vehicle to speak with the occupants, they observed several passengers moving frantically inside the vehicle. During their approach, the rear passenger door opened and a young male jumped out and fled. Troopers detained three other individuals who also tried to flee, albeit unsuccessfully.

With the scene under control and a basic description of the outstanding suspect relayed to Troop H Command, the operator of the Honda Pilot told Troopers that she was working as a rideshare driver unknowingly transporting the suspects. Troopers later located four firearms inside her vehicle from the area where the suspects were seated. The first firearm was seen in plain view of the Troopers as it was laying on the floor of the backseat.  A subsequent search of the car lead to the three additional firearms.

Several of the weapons contained large capacity magazines which are capable of holding more than ten rounds, one of the weapon’s serial numbers was defaced, and another was found with a switch device, a small, illegal attachment that makes a pistol fully automatic (like a machine gun).

When Troopers searched the three suspects as part of the standard arrest process, they discovered a 40MM round on one of the suspect’s person.

A short time later, Boston Police located the fourth outstanding suspect on River Street behind a business.

Police transported all four suspects to the Milton Barracks for booking. No information is available regarding their identities because they are juveniles. When Troopers queried their information, they found several warrants for crimes including armed robbery, home invasion, firearms offenses, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, vandalism of property, breaking and entering, among other charges.

The Bail Commissioner ordered all suspects to be held on no bail and Police transferred them to the Department of Youth Services.

All suspects will be charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a loaded machine gun — c.269 §10(n) (1 count)

  • Possession of a large-capacity feeding device — c.269 §10(m) (3 counts)

  • Possession of ammunition without an FID card — c.269 §10(h)(1) (4 counts)

  • Possession of a firearm without an FID card — c.269 §10(h) (4 counts)

  • Carrying a loaded firearm without a license — c.269 §10(n) (4 counts)

  • Defacing a firearm serial number — c.269 §11C (1 count))

Additionally, one of the juveniles will be charged with resisting arrest — c268 §32B

(268/32B-0).

The State Police would like to express gratitude to our partners at the Dedham and Boston Police Departments for their collaboration in this incident.

Anyone with information about criminal activity, including auto theft and illegal firearms, is encouraged to share it with local or state police.

More than 230 Grams of Suspected Fentanyl Found in Latex Gloves

A Trooper from the Revere Barracks on patrol in Saugus noticed a vehicle with heavy window tint make several marked lane violations.

As he spoke to the driver, the Trooper noticed a strong smell of marijuana, as well as a rolling tray with a green leafy substance on it.

After removing the driver from the car, Troopers conducted a K9 sniff that yielded two latex gloves containing an unknown white powdery substance believed to be Fentanyl. The combined weight of the gloves was over 230 grams. The operator was charged with motor vehicle and narcotics violations.

Woman Arrested for 5 Felony Warrants

While on patrol in Springfield, a Trooper queried a vehicle at a gas station and discovered that the vehicle’s registration was revoked.

Upon speaking with the driver, the Trooper learned that the driver didn’t have a license with them. When the Trooper asked for the driver’s information verbally, the person provided a false identity.

Eventually, the person offered their true name and the Trooper learned that they had a suspended license for a prior OUI offense as well as five felony warrants.

The Trooper placed the individual under arrest without further incident.

Man Arrested for OUI Blows Almost Three Times the Legal Limit

A Trooper assigned to the Cheshire Barracks responded to a two-car crash in the town of Savoy.

While enroute, dispatch notified the Trooper that one of the vehicles involved in the crash was leaving the scene. The Trooper arrived and spoke to the other driver to make sure her and her 7-month-old child were safe and did not need medical attention. The driver shared a picture of the car that hit her, which allowed the Trooper to follow up at the address of the owner.

At the home, the Trooper observed the vehicle parked in the driveway with damage consistent with a crash. He made contact with the owner and immediately noticed signs of impairment. The Trooper administered SFSTs and determined the man was intoxicated. He was arrested for OUI.

Trooper Helps Deliver Baby

The Millbury Barracks received a 911 call from a person reporting a woman in labor on the Pike at exit 96. Upon arrival, the Trooper realized it was too late to call for an ambulance and supported the woman in her delivery.

A short time later, the baby arrived safely. Both mother and baby were evaluated by Millbury EMS and transported to the hospital.

Man with Knife Threatens People at Moakley Park

The South Boston Barracks received several reports of a man wielding a knife and threatening them at Moakley Park in South Boston. Four people ran inside the Barracks in fear for their lives from that same individual.

Troopers told them to stay in place while they responded.

While enroute, another report came in about the armed individual. He moved to Carson Beach and began chasing volleyball players.

Shortly after arriving, Troopers identified the man with the knife and observed him throwing objects. They secured the man in handcuffs, and a search of the area revealed a large knife and an iPhone that belonged to one of the volleyball players.

Troopers charged the man with armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Cellphone Violation Results in Narcotics Arrest

A Trooper observed a motorist using his phone while driving and conducted a traffic stop.

When the driver rolled down his window, the Trooper immediately noticed an overwhelming smell of unburnt marijuana. In the vehicle’s third row, there was a large box containing multiple heat-sealed packs with a green leafy substance. Other Troopers arrived on scene to assist and in total, 14 pounds of marijuana was recovered from the car.
