Attempted Traffic Stop leads to Gun and Drug Charges

On June 1, 2026, at approximately 12:22 pm, a Trooper out of the Springfield Barracks reported an attempt to initiate a vehicle stop for speeding on I-91 North in Holyoke. The vehicle reportedly fled and continued North on I-91 at speeds estimated at 90-107 miles per hour. The vehicle operator exited the highway. A short time later, the vehicle was reported to have crashed on the Exit 15A offramp, and the operator was seen jumping the guardrail and fleeing on foot. Two additional occupants of the vehicle were detained on scene. Firearms and a large amount of marijuana were found in the vehicle.
State Police Troopers from the Springfield and Northampton barracks, the Community Action Team, Airwing, and K-9 West, in addition to members of the Easthampton and Holyoke Police Departments, conducted a search for the driver, who was eventually located and taken into custody after a brief foot chase at approximately 2:43 pm in Holyoke.
The passengers:
Kevon Crittendon, 24, of Springfield, is charged with Possession of a Large-capacity feeding device and Possession to Distribute a Class D drug
De'Shye Brewster, 23, of Springfield, is charged with Failure to Report a Firearms transaction, and Possession to Distribute a Class D drug
The driver:
Markus Mathieu, 23, of Springfield, is facing several charges, including Failure to Stop for Police, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Marked Lanes violations, speeding,
and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class D Drug.
