Killer Identified in 1995 Homicide of Celestina Perez

This week, the Massachusetts State Police joined the Hampden District Attorney's Office and the Springfield Police Department in announcing a breakthrough in the 1995 homicide of Celestina Perez.
For more than three decades, this case remained unsolved. Through the dedication of Troopers assigned to the Hampden County Unresolved Case Unit and forensic scientists from the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory, working alongside prosecutors and Springfield Police detectives, advances in DNA technology helped identify Joseph James Ceravolo Jr. as Perez's killer.
This case is a powerful reminder that evidence endures, science continues to advance, and the pursuit of justice never stops. The unwavering commitment of Massachusetts State Police investigators and forensic scientists helped bring long-awaited answers to Perez's family after 31 years.
