Troopers Arrest Hit-and-Run Driver who Caused Fatal North Attleborough Crash

UPDATE to yesterday's fatal North Attleboro crash:

State Police have charged JOSEPH POMPEI JR., 50, of Cranston, R.I., with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, leaving the scene of a crash, causing fatal injuries, and related offenses stemming from yesterdays hit-and-run crash on interstate 95 in North Attleboro. POMPEI will be arraigned this morning in Attleboro District Court.

The investigation indicates that POMPEI, who was driving a Buick Lacrosse southbound, struck the Cadillac Escalade, which was also southbound, causing it to veer off the road, go through the median, and collide with the Jaguar XJ on the northbound side of the highway. POMPEI then fled the scene. The damaged Buick was later located in Attleboro and POMPEI was detained and eventually arrested.

The Jaguar operator, Randall Ricketts, 58, of Foxborough, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

The operator of the Cadillac, a 61-year-old Rhode Island man, suffered life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital.
