UPDATE #1-MSP Divers Recover Body of Missing Farm Employee in Sheffield

UPDATE #1—At 11:55 AM Massachusetts State Police divers located the body of the missing man inside the pickup truck in which he was last seen last night. The pickup was submerged in approximately eight feet of water in the retention pond.

The victim is a 21-year-old male Mexican national. He was employed at the farm, Pine Island Farm, as a harvester. He also lived at the farm. His name is not being released at this time.

The submerged truck was observed in the pond by a State Police Air Wing helicopter crew earlier in the morning. Divers contended with near-zero visibility in the retention pond to make the recovery. There were no immediate signs indicating his death was suspicious. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will take custody of his body for a post-mortem examination. That examination, along with the ongoing investigation by the State Police Detective Unit for Berkshire County, will determine the man’s cause and manner of death.
