After more than three decades, long-awaited answers have been uncovered for the families of two victims in Plymouth County.
Through the relentless work of the Massachusetts State Police Unresolved Cases Unit and our Forensic Scientists at the State Police Crime Lab, Robert Carey has been identified through DNA evidence as the person responsible for the 1991 murder of Cherie Bishop and the 1993 sexual assault of Donna Bell in Brockton.
While Robert Carey is now deceased, this week's announcement reflects the unwavering commitment of investigators who never stopped pursuing the truth.
We hope this announcement brings a measure of closure to the Bishop and Bell families and to all the loved ones affected by these tragedies.
Particular thanks go to Trooper Joseph Collett and Forensic Scientist Krista Lundgren, who worked this case and followed the evidence to help get these victims' families answers after all of these years.
