Individual Cycling on Highway Safely Transported for Medical Evaluation
On 08/30/2026, the Andover Barracks received multiple calls reporting a male riding a bicycle southbound on Interstate 93 in Andover. A Trooper located the individual and issued multiple commands to stop, which were ignored. The male traveled across all three lanes and onto the paved left shoulder. With assistance from civilians, the Trooper took the resisting male into custody. Further investigation revealed the male had severe cognitive challenges and had been reported missing the previous night. He was transported to a local hospital for physical and mental health evaluation.
Unruly Individual at State Park Taken into Custody
On 08/30/2026, Troopers from the Shelburne Falls Barracks were dispatched to Mohawk Trail State Forest in Charlemont for a report of an intoxicated subject making death threats toward other park visitors. While enroute, Troopers received reports that additional patrons were leaving the grounds due to the subject’s unruly behavior. Upon arrival, the Troopers spoke with several campers who reported continued belligerent and offensive behavior by the individual. The subject was found to be intoxicated and was taken into custody.
Erratic Operator Charged with OUI
On 08/27/2026, the Charlton Barracks received multiple reports of an erratic operator on Interstate 90 westbound in Warren. A Trooper responded to the area and located the vehicle, stopped in the breakdown lane at the 70-mile marker. The operator was asleep in the driver’s seat, with the vehicle in gear and his foot on the brake. The Trooper attempted to wake the driver, who then released the brake and started to roll away. The Trooper followed the vehicle on foot and attempted to get the driver’s attention. The driver then shifted into reverse instead of park and began rolling backward. The Trooper eventually got the driver to stop the vehicle. The operator was taken into custody after failing multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). During the motor vehicle inventory, numerous empty cans of alcohol were found. The operator was charged with Operating Under the Influence (OUI) liquor 2nd offense, providing a false name during booking, negligent operation, unlicensed operation and possession of an open container of alcohol.
Operator Stopped for Cell Phone Use Arrested for Drug Offenses
On 08/28/2026, a Trooper from the D Troop stopped a motor vehicle in New Bedford after observing the operator using a cell phone while driving. Upon approaching the vehicle, the Trooper observed a large quantity of suspected marijuana in plain view. A subsequent vehicle search resulted in the seizure of approximately 45 pounds of marijuana, including packaging. The operator was taken into custody and charged with drug-related offenses.
Speeding Operator Charged with Reckless Endangerment of a Child
On 08/26/2026, a Trooper from the H Troop observed a vehicle weaving in and out of traffic lanes at a high rate of speed while traveling southbound on Interstate 95 in North Attleborough. As he attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, the vehicle accelerated to a speed in excess of 100 mph while traveling in the left lane. Approximately one mile later, the vehicle came to a stop in the left travel lane. During the investigation, the Trooper discovered that a 3-year-old toddler was not properly restrained in a car seat. The operator was taken into custody for multiple offenses, including:
