On 09/14/2026, a Trooper from the Danvers Barracks was patrolling Route 1 southbound in Saugus when he observed a vehicle driving erratically. The Trooper conducted a motor vehicle stop and, while speaking with the operator, the Trooper observed what appeared to be a handgun on the passenger-side floor. He asked the operator for their license to carry (LTC), which the operator stated he did not have. The firearm was determined to be a pellet gun. While inspecting the weapon, the Trooper observed a glass pipe containing residue consistent with narcotics use. Another Trooper responded to the scene to assist. The operator displayed signs of impairment. The Trooper administered a rapid roadside drug screening and conducted Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs), resulting in the operator’s arrest for OUI-Drugs. A search led to finding a clear plastic bag containing a milky, white, crystal-like substance believed to be narcotics. Multiple charges were filed, including narcotics possession, possession of a dangerous weapon, OUI 3rd offense, and civil motor vehicle violations.

Troopers ordered the operator to exit, but he failed to comply and the vehicle’s transmission remained in Drive. Due to the exigency of the situation, the Troopers broke the vehicle window and removed the operator. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were administered, which the operator failed.
