State Police Help Recovering 35 Missing and Endangered Young People
The Massachusetts State Police have been part of the U.S. Marshals Service’s Operation Yellow Card, a multi-agency initiative aimed at locating and recovering endangered youth within and from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts prior to and throughout the FIFA World Cup.
Beginning in April 2026, the operation has recovered 35 endangered and missing children from Massachusetts who have been found as far away as Georgia and Texas, reuniting them with family or placing them with the appropriate protective services.
This is an effort led by the U.S. Marshals in collaboration with Massachusetts State Police, Boston Police, Essex, Plymouth, and Suffolk District Attorney’s Offices.
"Every missing and vulnerable young person deserves safety and security and to be given the opportunity to live free from the threat of exploitation. Human traffickers prey on our most vulnerable, targeting those who are often isolated or in crisis,” said Massachusetts State Police Colonel Geoffrey Noble. “The men and women of the Massachusetts State Police, along with our local and federal partners, have remained laser-focused on the mission of Operation Yellow Card, to locate missing children from around Massachusetts and provide them with the support and protection they deserve.”
Wrong Way Operator Involved in Crash Arrested
On May 31, 2026, a Trooper from the Danvers Barracks observed a wrong-way operator on Route 1 North in Peabody. The operator was driving southbound in the northbound lane.
The Trooper began making radio transmissions to alert the other Troopers in the area. One Trooper began to slow and shield civilian traffic. Another Trooper was involved in a crash with the wrong way operator that brought the vehicle to a stop.
An investigation was conducted that resulted in the arrest of the operator of the vehicle involved. The Trooper and the wrong way operator were transported to separate hospitals, both were treated and released. The wrong-way operator was charged with several offenses, including OUI (Liquor), Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Driving the Wrong Way on a State Highway.
U-Haul Striking Vehicles Lead to OUI Arrest
On May 29, 2026, Troopers from the Cheshire Barracks were dispatched to Route 8 in the Town of Cheshire after they were advised of an erratic operator driving a U-Haul van. The vehicle struck several parked vehicles in the Town of Lanesborough.
Troopers spotted the U-Haul and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The operator initially appeared oblivious to the cruiser’s lights and sirens. Following roadside assessments, the operator was taken into custody and charged with OUI Drugs.
Foot Chase Leads to Firearm and Drug Charges
On May 28, 2026, a Sergeant from the B Troop Community Action Team stopped a vehicle on Catherine Street in the City of Springfield. As the vehicle came to a stop, the driver exited the car and fled on foot. The Sergeant secured the vehicle and the remaining occupants while broadcasting the subject's description and direction of travel.
Moments later, Troopers spotted the subject running from the area. Troopers exited their cruisers and chased over fences and across the very busy State Street. After a short foot pursuit, the subject was taken into custody.
While reviewing the cruiser camera footage from the stop, Troopers could see the subject had exited the vehicle while holding a bright blue cooler-style bag with very distinct handles on it. The subject did not have that bag when he was taken into custody. Troopers searched the area where the subject fled and eventually found the same blue bag. A search of the bag revealed 28 grams of crack cocaine and a .45 Smith and Wesson handgun. The subject was charged with several offenses, including Resisting Arrest, Trafficking Cocaine, and multiple Firearm Violations.
Road Rage Incident Involving Machete
Troopers from the Milton Barracks responded to a road rage incident that began on Route 95 in the Town of Dedham area.
Witnesses reported the vehicles exited the highway and pulled into a parking lot. Witnesses further described two people exit their vehicles for a confrontation when one of the individuals brandished a machete. The machete-wielding party then fled the area on to Route 95 North.
Troopers assisted Dedham Police and Newton Police locating the individual at a residence in Newton. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
BOLO for Person in Crisis Leads to Discovery of Rifle and Ammunition
Troopers out of the Northampton Barracks were advised to “Be On The Lookout” or BOLO for an individual who was thought to be in a mental health crisis and traveling on I-91 Southbound. A Trooper soon observed the vehicle pass his stationary location. The Trooper radioed for backup and stopped the vehicle. The Troopers conducted a felony stop without issue. Once the operator was in custody, a search revealed a scoped rifle with a 30-round magazine and boxes of ammo. The operator was arrested and transported to the barracks, and later transported to the hospital for an emergency psychiatric hospitalization.
