Erratic Operation Leads to OUI & Firearm Arrest

On 08/02/2026, the Lee Barracks received multiple reports of a highly erratic vehicle on Interstate 90 in Lee. A Trooper located the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The Trooper suspected the operator may have been operating under the influence of alcohol and requested the operator perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. The operator failed and was arrested. During the inventory of the vehicle, the Trooper located a loaded, unsecured high-capacity firearm on the passenger floor, in addition to multiple open alcohol containers. The party was charged with firearm violations and Operating Under the Influence.

Operator Arrested after Road Rage Incident Involving a Firearm

On 08/04/2026, State Police Athol issued a be on the lookout (BOLO) for a vehicle traveling on Route 2 Eastbound in Gardner for an operator who had brandished a gun during a road rage incident.  A description of the operator and vehicle, along with the license plate, were also included in the BOLO. State Police Athol further advised the victim was still on the phone providing location updates. A Trooper located the target vehicle and began to follow; the operator then pulled into the breakdown lane and stopped. The operator advised the Trooper that he had a gun in a holster on his hip. The operator was asked to hand over the gun, which he did willingly.  After the weapon – a Smith & Wesson .45 M&P - was secured, the Trooper asked the operator what had transpired earlier. The operator advised a vehicle had cut him off on two separate occasions and then swerved in front of his vehicle, pushing him off the roadway. The operator stated he was in fear for his life. The operator said he displayed the handgun to have the other operator back off. The operator was removed from the vehicle, placed under arrest, and transported to the Leominster Barracks for booking.

Individual Sleeping in Vehicle Charged with 3^rd OUI Offense

On 08/02/2026, a Trooper from the Yarmouth Barracks responded to a call of a red sedan with a female occupant slumped over in the rest area in Brewster. The Trooper located the female operator, but he was initially unable to wake her. An open container of alcohol and an odor of an alcoholic beverage were present in the vehicle. The operator awoke, and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted. The operator refused to take a portable breath test. The Trooper formed the opinion that the operator was operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The operator was placed under arrest and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol (3rd offense).

Troopers Locate Male Experiencing Mental Health Crisis

On 08/03/2026, Troop A received reports of a possibly emotionally disturbed person (EDP) in the area. These reports came from the Wakefield Police Department and the Maine State Police. A male party allegedly contacted his girlfriend and made verbal / text threats that he intended to seriously harm himself in her apartment in Wakefield, MA. Maine State Police and Massachusetts State Police were in contact with the cell phone carrier, which was actively receiving cell tower information.  Multiple area cruisers began to be on the lookout (BOLO) for the vehicle. The vehicle was observed on Route 95 southbound in the Wakefield/Reading area. Troopers from the Danvers Barracks and Wakefield PD coordinated a plan to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was stopped without any major disturbances or injury. The male party informed Troopers on scene that a firearm was in the center console of the vehicle. The firearm was secured. The male party was issued a summons for the firearms charges and was transported to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Firearm Brandished During Road-Rage Incident

On 07/27/2026, a Trooper from the South Boston Barracks responded to a road rage incident on Morrissey Boulevard in the City of Boston. The victim stated that a firearm was brandished and the suspect threatened to shoot him. The suspect vehicle was located on Columbia Road.  The Trooper followed this vehicle until backup arrived due to the nature of the call. Troopers initiated a motor vehicle stop on Glenway Street. An investigation ensued, and a firearm was recovered from the suspect’s glove box. The suspect was subsequently arrested and charged.
