Weekly Summary of Police Activity

In the 351 cities and towns, Massachusetts State Troopers use their training and skill to navigate a variety of circumstances that often present significant danger to themselves and others. In an effort to raise greater awareness of their work, the Department periodically shares incident summaries.

Each summary reflects a small portion of the Department’s work to strengthen public safety, collaborate with our partners, and build positive relationships in the communities we serve.

For the integrity of ongoing criminal cases and in the interest of each subject’s privacy, we have removed personally identifying information from the narratives as well as information not subject to public disclosure. All criminal defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

High-Speed Chase; Armed Driver Taken Into Custody

Troopers of the Medford Barracks were on Interstate 93 in Woburn, conducting speed enforcement, when a dark-colored sedan passed at a high rate of speed.

Troopers noticed the vehicle take the ramp to Interstate 95 South, actively attempting to

evade them. The vehicle continued to accelerate at a high rate of speed as Troopers pursued with their emergency lights and siren activated. The sedan attempted to take the ramp to Route 3 North at a high rate of speed and crashed.

Troopers removed both parties from the vehicle without incident. The driver was found to have a loaded firearm in his waistband and taken into custody.

Traffic Stop Uncovers Illegal Gun, Marijuana

Troopers out of the Revere Barracks observed a motor vehicle operating with an

expired registration and conducted a motor vehicle stop. The occupants were advised that the vehicle would be towed. During the inventory, a small black bag was located in the center console containing a black handgun. The operator was placed in custody.

The other occupants of the vehicle were advised they were detained while the

investigation was conducted. Both of the occupants then fled on foot.

Troopers confirmed that the operator of the vehicle did not have a license to carry. The handgun was identified as a Glock and had an extended magazine that held 31 rounds. The gun was also altered with a switch that would make it fully automatic. A backpack, containing a gallon-sized bag with multiple smaller bags containing a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana, was located in the trunk.

Drugs Seized After Single Car Crash

Troopers of the Springfield Barracks were dispatched to a single-car crash on I-291 in Springfield. Upon arrival, the driver was outside the vehicle, which had sustained significant damage.  The driver was observed by the Trooper pacing nervously and exhibiting signs of possible impairment. When asked for his license and registration, the operator got back in the car and was moving around suspiciously, as if to conceal something. Troopers located a backpack with a plastic bag sticking out of it. The operator attempted to leave with the bag. During a search of the vehicle, Troopers located more illegal controlled substances. The operator was arrested

OUI Arrest Assisted by Harvard, MA Police

Troopers of the Leominster Barracks attempted to stop a vehicle on Route 495, the vehicle stopped at a red light in Harvard, Massachusetts. After a conversation with Troopers, the driver of the vehicle then fled the scene. A short time later, Harvard Police Department advised that they had the same vehicle stopped. Troopers responded to the scene and determined that the operator was operating under the influence of alcohol and subsequentially arrested after providing a breath sample of .28.

Weapon Recovered After Vehicle Stop

Troopers from the Middleborough Barracks conducted a motor vehicle stop on Church Street in the City of Brockton. The driver tried to evade law enforcement by pulling into a parking lot and turning the vehicle’s lights and engine off. The operator stated that he was a driver for DoorDash and was making a delivery.  Troopers observed no food or items to be delivered and observed the occupants become visibly nervous. The operator was asked to open the DoorDash application to show his delivery and was unable to. Due to inconsistencies in their stories, the operator was removed from the vehicle, and a knife was found. The Trooper then ordered the front seat passenger from the vehicle and observed a firearm in the passenger’s waistband. The firearm was removed and was discovered to be a loaded Glock 22, with a high capacity 15 round magazine as well as 11 rounds.  The operator was arrested.

Serious Crash From OUI with a Firearm

Troopers of the Tunnels Barracks responded to a serious single-car crash with ejection of an occupant in the Sumner Tunnel. The passenger was seriously injured when he was ejected from the vehicle. During the vehicle inventory, Troopers discovered a loaded firearm with high-capacity magazines. Further investigation at the hospital found that the operator had been operating under the influence. The operator was arrested for OUI and carrying firearm while intoxicated.
