Oxford Crash And Vehicle Fire Results In Death Of Worcester Man




At 10:00 PM Friday evening, Massachusetts State Troopers assigned to the Sturbridge Barracks responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 395 southboun­­d in Oxford, near Exit 4, that resulted in fatal injuries to the operator.


The vehicle involved in the crash was a 1998 Jeep Wrangler sport utility vehicle which had left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire.


The operator of the Jeep, Shawn Marengo, 31, of Worcester, was determined to be deceased on scene.


The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the State Police-Sturbridge Barracks, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Worcester County State Police Detective Unit.


Troopers on scene were assisted by Webster Fire Department and EMS, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, MassDOT, and the State Police Employee Assistance Unit.


The left lane of Route 395 southbound was closed for approximately 4 hours while investigation of the scene and recovery efforts were undertaken. The crash was cleared around 2:20 AM Saturday morning.
