This morning, Saturday, December 23, 2023, a Massachusetts State Trooper radioed the Middleborough Barracks and reported that a pickup truck had struck his cruiser, pushing it into him while he was on the roadside. The crash occurred on Route 24 southbound in West Bridgewater. West Bridgewater Fire and EMS were quickly dispatched to the scene of the crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates a 2020 Toyota Tacoma operated by ILDO WILSON DE PINA, 38, of Taunton reared ended the Trooper’s cruiser while on a traffic stop at the location of the crash. The force of the crash sent the DE PINA’s Tacoma and the cruiser into the Trooper and the vehicle he had previously pulled over. The Trooper suffered non-life threatening injuries. DE PINA and the operator of the third vehicle sustained minor injuries. All three were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton for treatment.
DE PINA was released from the hospital this morning and will face charges of OUI liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, move over law violation, and marked lanes violation.
The crash is under investigation by the State Police-Middleborough Barracks, State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and Trooper were assisted on scene by MassDOT.
Route 24 southbound was closed for approximately an hour and a half to accommodate the clean-up and crash investigation. No further information is available at this time.
